When Nature Claims Its Rights!

Published on Wednesday 30 April 2025

A major step forward in the legal recognition of the living world.

A historic moment took place today at the French National Assembly: researchers, legal experts, artists, and elected officials gathered at the invitation of MP Charles Fournier (from Indre-et-Loire!) to push for the inclusion of the Rights of Nature on both national and European legislative agendas.

Alongside the mayors of Nantes, Lyon, and Tours, Yann Galut, mayor of Bourges, emphasized the fundamental importance of these issues for the Bourges region: “Given the state of the world, it’s hard not to make Nature a top priority”.

Every local actor gave their full support to this first edition. Among the speakers was Camille de Toledo, a key artist in our European Capital of Culture project and an early advocate for the legal recognition of the living world. He actively spoke in favor of the vital role of arts and culture in rethinking our relationship with nature.

This ambition has been at the heart of Bourges 2028 from day one: a living, rooted culture that is fully integrated into the solutions we must build to meet the ecological challenges of our time—where artists and citizens are the driving force behind real, lasting transformation.
