The “Mourners” by the Vitrines Artistiques du Berry association
How can we revitalize our town centers and turn empty shops into exhibition spaces? This is the question that Bourges 2028 and the Vitrines Artistiques du Berry association sought to answer by inaugurating their first artistic showcase in the heart of Bourges.
The empty shop windows in the city center of Bourges are being transformed into temporary exhibitions to showcase our shared heritage. From unoccupied storefronts, they become eye-catching treasures! This initiative highlights both the urban space and our rich cultural heritage.
Bourges 2028 starts now! Head to 11 Rue Moyenne to discover the replicas of the “Mourners,” the historic statuettes guarding the tomb of Duke Jean de Berry, displayed behind the window of a former perfumery.
One of the first artistic achievements of our European Capital of Culture, reflecting our ambition: to invent poetic and bold solutions in Bourges that we can later share with our sister cities in France and across Europe, all facing similar challenges.
